Dance Class 101: 5 Tips and Tricks to Kick Off the New Dance Year
Class is back in session! As the new dance year gets underway, members of the Dance Expressions community return to the studio, catch up with former classmates and instructors and make new friends. To kick off our year, we have five tips and tricks that will help lead to success in class.
Looking the part. When dancers come prepared to class with the correct footwear and dance attire, they can focus all of their energy on learning. Try adding a personal touch by picking a leotard in your favorite color! This can help you channel your confidence before stepping into the studio.
Break a sweat! Dance is hard work, but the rewards are worth it. Don’t shy away from getting your heart rate up and pushing your body to do new things. Dance is just as athletic as it is artistic. Throughout the dance year, if dancers work hard in class, they will notice themselves getting stronger and be able to tackle more advanced movements.
Make friends. Dance is more fun with friends! Kindness and friendship are pillars of our DE community, which makes our studio a special place. We love seeing good “DE character” within the classroom and in our gathering spaces, like the main lobby. If you come early for class, try striking up a conversation with a fellow dancer. They may become your new dance bestie!
Hydrate! Skip the line at the water fountain by bringing your own water bottle! Dancers can bring their water into the classroom, which can help make breaks shorter and give them more time for dancing! If you want to customize your water bottle with DE swag, check out our stickers at the front desk.
Cherish your journey. Being a dancer is an amazing personal, physical, and artistic journey. At DE, we think every dancer has something unique to contribute and that our studio can provide a nurturing atmosphere for them to develop and flourish. Comparison can be the thief of joy, and while it is important for our dancers to look to their peers and mentors for inspiration, ultimately everyone’s path will be different. Our faculty are delighted to assist in that journey and help our dancers reach their goals.
